The Law of… Taylor Swift?!

Taylor Swift. Who the heck would fail not to know who this wonderful country-pop singer is?  Who could possibly not have heard of her hit songs such as ‘Teardrops on my Guitar’, ‘Tim McGraw’, ‘Love Story’, and ‘You Belong With Me’ to name a few?  I would be shocked to hear anyone from our current generation who doesn’t know about her.

I have absolutely loved country songs ever since Carrie Underwood released her debut album, ever since Kellie Pickler released her first album, ever since I heard Tim McGraw’s songs.  I would, probably, not have learned of Taylor Swift when she was just a budding artist if it were not for my two siblings who relentlessly played her song, ‘Teardrops on my Guitar’ over and over again, even during the night.  If it weren’t for Abby and Mara, I wouldn’t have been among the first batch of fans for Taylor Swift.

People often think that country songs are boring. Heck, I even thought so back when I was still a kid. People know of my love for JPOP (Japanese Pop) and my resentment towards songs that have a Rated-M content filled with cursing words, talks about the devil and an anger issue with the world and most of all songs against God.  People would also know that I am a sucker when it comes to Christian Pop Music.  What they would fail to know is that I am a Country Music addict as well.

A friend once asked me why.  The reason is quite simple.  I love stories and I love a song that has a message, a positive one, to give to their audience.  Country music does that.  It gives me what I am searching for in a song.  If you would listen intently and understand the lyrics, you would see the story behind it and even at times can understand the feeling the song is trying to give off, just like how it is when listening to Classical Music — another favorite of mine.

Anyways, like I’ve said, I’m quite addicted to Taylor’s songs right now and I’m guessing I would always be addicted to her songs forever.

A couple of days ago, when I was listening to her album, ‘Fearless’, I realized how there are some songs there that actually fits what I’ve went through or what I’m going through or what I am feeling.  It fits so much so that I can actually imagine the music playing in my mind as memories of certain events that had transpired in the past come to mind. It makes me laugh and at times, regret some certain decisions and mistakes done in the past.

And that was when it hit me.  What music really should be.

Music should not only be those songs that are pleasant to hear but those that you can connect to.  Those that, when you’re listening makes you see things differently and open your eyes to things that you would otherwise not see if you will only view at that something in one perspective.

A song that I can say I feel close to at the moment is Taylor Swift’s ‘You Belong With Me’, lol.  Of course, it’s kind of like a song that tells my exact feelings, and tells those things that I could not bring myself to say.  It made me realize something more than I am letting out on this post (for personal reasons).  It also made me realize and see things differently that when I think about it, is a bit complicated for my liking.

Another song that I feel connected to is Taylor’s ‘Teardrops on my Guitar’. I can’t divulge the reason for it in this post and people who know me may think they got it all figured out but, all I can say is that I can’t read all of your minds but I’m guessing there is one person who may think that this has something to do with that person right now but I have to say that it has nothing to do with that person but with another person whom the first song that I talked about in the above paragraph reminds me of. lol, told you it’s complicated.

I’m not being a Drama Queen, though.  I guess I’m just writing the things that I cannot put into spoken words — I am not very good with communicating vocally to other people. Writing has, after all, been my forte (I guess that’s why people think I’m shy when I’m actually just uncertain in starting a dialogue).

Anyways, to close this post, I’ve included the lyrics to the two songs I’ve mentioned.

Song Title: Teardrops on my Guitar
Artist: Taylor Swift
Album: Taylor Swift

Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won’t see
That I want and I’m needing everything that we should be
I’ll bet she’s beautiful, that girl he talks about
And she’s got everything that I have to live without

Drew talks to me, I laugh cause it’s so damn funny
That I can’t even see anyone when he’s with me
He says he’s so in love, he’s finally got it right,
I wonder if he knows he’s all I think about at night

[Chorus:]

He’s the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He’s the song in the car I keep singing, don’t know why I do

Drew walks by me, can he tell that I can’t breathe?
And there he goes, so perfectly,
The kind of flawless I wish I could be
She’d better hold him tight, give him all her love
Look in those beautiful eyes and know she’s lucky cause

[Repeat Chorus]

So I drive home alone, as I turn out the light
I’ll put his picture down and maybe
Get some sleep tonight

He’s the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only one who’s got enough of me to break my heart
He’s the song in the car I keep singing, don’t know why I do
He’s the time taken up, but there’s never enough
And he’s all that I need to fall into..

Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won’t see

And the second song…

Song Title: You Belong With Me
Artist: Taylor Swift
Album: Fearless

You’re on the phone with your girlfriend, She’s upset
She’s going off about something that you said
She doesnt get your humour like I do

I’m in the room, its a typical Tuesday night
I’m listening to the kind of music she doesnt like
And she’ll never know your story like I do

But she wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts
She’s cheer captain and I’m on the bleachers
Dreaming bout the day when you’ll wake up and find
That what you’re lookin for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I’m the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can’t you see?
You belong with me
You belong with me

Walkin the streets with you in your worn out jeans
I cant help thinking this is how it ought to be
Laughing on the park bench thinkin to myself
Hey isnt this easy?

And you’ve got a smile that could light up this whole town
I havent seen it in awhile, since she brought you down
You say you find I know you better than that
Hey, Whatcha doing with a girl like that?

She wears high heels, I wear sneakers
She’s cheer captain and I’m on the bleachers
Dreaming bout the day when you’ll wake up and find
That what you’re looking for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I’m the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can’t you see?
You belong with me

Standin by, waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know that?
You belong with me
You belong with me

Oh I remember you driving to my house in the middle of the night
I’m the one who makes you laugh when you know you’re about to cry
I know your favorite songs and you tell me about your dreams
I think I know where you belong. I think I know it’s with me.

Can’t you see that I’m the one who understand you?
Been here all along so why can’t you see?
You belong with me

Standing by or waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know that
You belong with me
You belong with me

Have you ever thought just maybe
You belong with me
You belong with me

Well, that’s that.

I only hope that the message is sent to the right person and not a different one (because I have this gut feeling that there would be a couple of people who would think of this post wrongly, hopefully not though).

There is nothing more that I enjoy doing than reading books and writing. I'm kind of a nerd like that, XD. I have been writing for 7 years and am the author of the YA novel "Winged: The Awakening" and "Winged: The Unraveling". Also, a YouTuber dealing with video games and gaming.
