Alright, so I haven’t been able to update my blog for a while now BUT I do have a pretty good reason for that. I’m busy working on my novel (not to worry though, I’d be updating tomorrow when the new File for Detective Conan comes out). I’ve actually revised it THREE TIMES already and am still in the process of proof-reading and editing it. But, for this particular phase in my writing, I have sought (and still am seeking) help from a select few of my friends (five to be exact) to review the story for the first book of the Winged trilogy.
Why do I need to have five people read it and review? Because I want to see an unbiased opinion on what people may think of my story. You may be my friends but I want you to be as critical with the story as possible and tell me (with all honesty) what you think about it. It will help me a lot in polishing the story before I ask someone to proofread it (and by someone I am talking about a professional proofreader).
I won’t go on the details about the steps I am taking to get this book published, as this is not the post for that. What this post is, is a questionnaire for those whom I have given the draft to answer and thereby help me (you will be credited for it, of course) make the book better.
Please be reminded that you have to SEND ME AN EMAIL of your answers to these questions, and NOT post a comment with your answers here. It would be troublesome if it turns out to be a spoiler.
Anyways, I’ll post more instructions at the end of the questionnaire. Be reminded that I want honest answers, if you are going to criticize something in the novel, do so in a constructive way. Tell me what’s wrong with it and why you think that way instead of just saying that this chapter sucks or this character is weird. Explain. Elaborate.
With that said, here are the questions:
Winged, Book I: The Awakening
Part I: Flow of the Story
Q1: What do you think of the whole story? Is it good? Is it exciting and intriguing?
Q2: Is there something missing? Do you feel as if you have read something in the story that doesn’t make sense?
Q3: Does the plot make sense? Do the characters action and reaction sound and feel believable?
Q4: Did you found yourself confused at some point in the story?
Part II: Characters
Q1: What can you say about the characters? Are they well thought of? Well written?
Q2: Do the characters act and speak in the way they should (as described in their introductions)? Do they seem believable?
Q3: Is there a particular scene in the story where the actions of the character did not match with his/her personality?
Q4: Do the characters seem bland?
Part III: Overall Review
How would you rate the story as a whole? Did you like it? Hate it? Enjoyed reading it? What did you like best in the story? Who’s the most interesting character for you? Did you think the first-person narration worked?
READ BEFORE SENDING ME THE EMAIL WITH YOUR REVIEW/ANSWERS:
Here are some quick instructions on how to go about this questionnaire.
Like I’ve said I want honest opinions and constructive criticisms. I want to make this book (at least the flow of the story) as close to perfect as possible before having it proofread. Do not just answer the questions with a YES or a NO. Write an explanation as to why you think that way. Be detailed about it as much as possible. It wouldn’t help if you just answer briefly. I don’t mind reading a long answer as long as it helps.
When you send the email, be sure that the subject of the email reads: “WINGED-REVIEW” followed by your name. For example: “WINGED-REVIEW Sakura Martinez”. Then, send it to my email address (kuchiki (dot) sakura (at) gmail (dot) com and at sakuramartinez (at) vis-ph (dot) com). Yes, I do prefer that you send it to both my emails to be sure that I receive your review. Once you have sent me the email, write a comment here for good measure.
I can only allow three days up to a week for people to review the story. If you can’t do so, then please tell me before hand.
PLEASE, PLEASE don’t share the manuscript with anyone else. There are only 5 people allowed to read the manuscript and review it. I repeat 5! If a friend of yours asks to read it, DON’T LET THEM! These 5 people have been given my utmost trust and I expect that they won’t break them. If you are interested in reading the manuscript (and are not one of the five) then shoot me an email. Of course, unless you are one of my friends (real friends who just happen to read this in facebook or at my blog and found it interesting and are willing to help out), I won’t be able to share with you the draft of my manuscript for review.
As I am being careful, I would also request these five people to DELETE the draft that I have sent them as soon as they have submitted a review. There’s no need to let my novel’s draft sit in your hard drives. If you want a copy then read the next paragraph. I don’t have any means of checking whether you do this or not so I’m just putting it all on the trust that I have given you, along with the confidentiality.
Now, you may be wondering: “What’s in it for me?” Well, apart from being mentioned at the acknowledgement part of my book whenit is published, you’ll also be getting a free copy of it (I’m not kidding, I can actually give a free copy of it already as soon as it has been proofread, courtesy of CreateSpace). It may not sound much to some, but it’s the best I could do at this moment (I don’t have any money to pay you or give you free iPads for your troubles, XD)
So far (as of this writing), I already have one person three people who has Five people are already reviewing the story (and is under anonymity for the sake of my manuscript not being leaked). Those of my friends who are interested in reviewing and helping me out, then send me a PM or an email or comment on this post.
Well, that’s about all for the instructions and the other important stuff. Will post an update again soon.
