Day 2: Been Here All Along

I used to be a Hannah Montanna fan–a fan of the show, I mean.  I don’t particularly like Miley Cyrus.  No, that’s not the reason why I enjoyed (or used to enjoy) watching HM.  Nope.  It was actually because of Emily Osment–the series’ “Lily” and her quirkiness.  I like Emily’s character there.  Sure, I also love a couple of HM songs but there are just some episodes of the series that made me feel annoyed of Miley.

Anyways, I’m not here to post a review about the show or show how much I am a fan of Emily Osment.  This post is for the second day of the hundred-days of music.  For today, we have a song from the final album of Hannah Montanna which is the album for the final season: Hannah Montanna Forever.  Yes, another song from Disney.  No, I am not going to post Disney songs for a hundred days. Yes, I am posting these songs based on their message and not so much as to who sang them.  Yes, I am also posting them based on the music–how well it’s sung (like how good the vocals are) and based on personal preference.  I hope that answers some of your questions.

Okay, so, today’s song is entitled: Been Here All Along.

Unlike most of HM songs which is all about dreams, falling in love, dreams, and living a double life, etcetera, etcetera, this particular song is all about family.  Or should I say: it is a kind of song one would sing to his or her parents.  In HM’s case, though I haven’t actually seen where and when this song was used (if ever), I’m guessing Miley-slash-Hannah sang this song to her dad.

It’s a pretty good song.  Not the usual screechy (sorry, Miles, still love most of your songs anyways), head-banging song but a kind of country melody (my kind of thing) to encompass the soft and tender message of the song.  Basically I can sum up the message of the song in one line: Though we are apart, you will always be in my heart.

Cheesy, I know.  But that particular line is what came to my mind when I was listening to the song.  It’s a good message and I have to say that most of the time people forget about their parents, and what they have done for them.  It’s quite sad actually.  I mean, I know that there are those parents who could careless about their children but there are plenty of parents who genuinely care about their children.

Most people tend to think that they are alone.  That no one cares.  They won’t even buy the whole “God cares” thing.  They want someone whom they can see, someone tangible and they go looking for them in the wrong places.  The thing is, they forget that before anything else, before anyone else (with the exception of God, because God should always, always come first) they have their parents who loves them no matter what.  Granted, sometimes some parents don’t show it much, but the truth is there.  They do.  And sometimes, we children, forget to show and give our love to them.

I’m glad that I was born a Filipino on account that Filipinos have close family ties.  We don’t do “Home For the Aged” or abandoning our parents once they get old, or making them feel like they’re not needed.  Well, okay, I’m not really sure about other clans, other families, but I am quite positive and proud that our clan-slash-family don’t do that sort of thing.

Anyways, this is getting to be a sappy post so I’ll stop here.  The lyrics to the song’s just down below.  This song can be found, as I have said, on the Hannah Montanna Forever album.  Now available in stores (but you have to look really, really hard to find them…at least from where I’m from (Lucena, the Land of the Late Releases…*sigh*))

Sun rise and I lift up my head then I smile at your picture sitting next to my bed
Sun set and you’re feeling okay cause you smile at the letter that I sent you today
Cant wait till I see you again and we both say remember when
The band played on the fourth of July and you held me on your shoulders way up high

Your still there for me
Wherever there might be
And if an ocean lies between us I’ll send a message across the sea
That you can’t sleep tonight knowing it’s all right
I believe that you’re listening to my song
You’re with me
You’ve been here all along
You’ve been here all along

Back then you walked me to school told me to be careful and to follow the rules
Fast forward you taught me to drive you gave me the keys and we went for a ride
And I cant wait till I see you again and we both say remember when
I’m holding on to moments like that and I know that their coming back

Your still there for me
Wherever there might be
And if an ocean lies between us I’ll send a message across the sea
That you can’t sleep tonight knowing It’s all right
I believe that you’re listening to my song
You’re with me
You’ve been here all along
You’ve been here all along

Yeah

All along the way I keep you in my heart and in my prayers
You’ll always be the one who cares the most
Counting all the days
I see you running up to say, “ I missed you”
I missed you

Your still there for me
Wherever there might be
And if an ocean lies between us I’ll send a message across the sea
That you can’t sleep tonight knowing It’s alright
I believed that you’re listening to my song

Your still there for me
Wherever there might be
And if an ocean lies between us I’ll send a message across the sea
That you can’t sleep tonight knowing It’s alright
I believed that you’re listening to my song
You’re with me
Cause you’re with me
You’ve been here all along
You’ve been here all along

There is nothing more that I enjoy doing than reading books and writing. I'm kind of a nerd like that, XD. I have been writing for 7 years and am the author of the YA novel "Winged: The Awakening" and "Winged: The Unraveling".
