Day 4: Pray

This wasn’t supposed to be the song that I’m going to post for the fourth day of the hundred-day song challenge.  I was supposed to post a different song but then, I remembered what today was–the 25th Anniversary of EDSA Revolution–and I figured that I might as well post something relevant.  Hence, I changed the song choice.  I figured that since President Noynoy Aquino decided not to make this a non-working holiday and since I can’t show my participation in the actual celebration, that this would be enough of a participation for me.

I’m not a Justin Beiber fan.  Seriously.  I only like two of his songs: Never Say Never and this one, Pray.  I’m not really a fan of his ‘searching for a girl’ songs.  I don’t particularly like or hate the guy but I do have an issue (or two) with his fans.

Anyways, this isn’t a rant about JB’s fans or his song.  This is a post about Pray.

I think that this song fits perfectly with EDSA.  Not to mention with how things are going around the world–Lybia, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Lindsay Lohan…okay, maybe that’s just overkill with her (I think she’s an idiot).  If you think about it, the strength of EDSA, the victory that was EDSA isn’t just about the strength and the victory of the people and of democracy.  It’s also the strength, the power, and the victory of prayer.

True, EDSA wouldn’t have been a victory for the people and for democracy if it weren’t for the late President Cory Aquino, the people who rallied to the call of the late Cardinal Sin, or the change of heart of a number of figures.  But, it wouldn’t have worked–blood would have been shed–if it were not for the constant vigil, the prayers and the faith of the people to God and to the belief that things will get better.  That there is a light at the end of the tunnel; a rainbow after the rain.

Prayer, Courage, Hope, and Love for freedom and democracy helped topple the tyranny of the Marcos Regime and I think that this song, Pray, really puts all into perspective.  I have to say that this song moved me.  It made me think.  Not just about EDSA and the state of my country but of the state of the world and it made me wonder: What the hell are the politicians, the world leaders doing?  Why the hell aren’t they doing their job?  Why are they thinking about wars, about making their lives better instead of thinking of the people–the one who placed them on their position, the one they should be serving–there are a lot more important matters to discuss than war, power, money.

In the end, I think it would just ultimately fall on the people again.  I’m not sure I can put that much faith on our political and world leaders.  It would really depend on us in the end.  On each individual’s power to make the world a better place, one small thing at a time.

Ooh ooh ooooh
Ooh ooh ooooh
Ooh ooh ooooh
And I pray

I just can’t sleep tonight
Knowing that things ain’t right
It’s in the papers
It’s on the t.v.
It’s everywhere that I go
Children are cryin’
Soldiers are dyin’
Some people don’t have a home

But I know there’s sunshine beyond that rain
I know there’s good times beyond that pain, hey
Can you tell me how I can make a change?

I close my eyes and I can see a better day
I close my eyes and pray
I close my eyes and I can see a better day
I close my eyes and pray

I lose my appetite
Knowing kids starve tonight
Am I a sinner, cause like like my dinner
Still there on my plate
Ooh, I got a vision to make a difference
And it’s starting today

‘Cause I know there’s sunshine beyond that rain
I know there’s good times beyond that pain, hey
Heaven, tell me how I can make a change?

I close my eyes and I can see a better day
I close my eyes and pray
I close my eyes and I can see a better day
I close my eyes and…

I pray for the brokenhearted
I pray for the life not started
I pray for all the ones not breathing
I pray for all the souls in need I pray

Can u give ‘em one today?

I just can’t sleep tonight…
Can someone tell me how to make a change?

I close my eyes and I can see a better day
I close my eyes and pray
I close my eyes and I can see a better day
I close my eyes and…

I PRAY
I PRAY
I PRAY…
I close my eyes and pray…

There is nothing more that I enjoy doing than reading books and writing. I'm kind of a nerd like that, XD. I have been writing for 7 years and am the author of the YA novel "Winged: The Awakening" and "Winged: The Unraveling".
