Day 19: You Raise Me Up

It is heartbreaking (not to mention very frightening) to watch the news last night when, no matter what news channel you watch on TV, they are talking about the massive earthquake that hit Japan and the tsunami(s).

It’s during such times that we find ourselves at the mercy of Mother Earth.  It is during these times that we find we are smaller and weaker in comparison to the powers-that-be.  Lives were lost.  Livelihoods and belongings were swept away.  And people…well, a couple (or maybe even a lot) of people panicked.

In the Philippines, 19 provinces were given a tsunami alert which later turned into a warning and then CNN went on a put “Tsunami Imminent” scrolling on their news ticker for Hawaii and California, and the Philippines.  People were asked to be ready to evacuate.  I think there are even those who believed that we (from Lucena) would be hit by a tsunami as well.

The tsunami did struck, not just Japan, but Hawaii and some of the coastal cities in the US.  But all the attention is currently (more) focused on Japan–who, although their buildings withstood the powerful 8.9 (some says 8.8) Magnitude earthquake, could do nothing about the tsunami that hit them.  Countries are giving them relief efforts and once again we are shown one of the greatest things about Humanity.

I chose today’s song in relation to the natural disaster that had occurred.  I chose this song because it seemed like the right song for today.

This song, “You Raise Me Up” is a beautiful song that tells us that when we find ourselves down on the dumps, hopeless and seemingly defeated; when we find ourselves alone, lonely and just about to quit, there is always someone who is willing to help us; someone who is willing to (as the song says) ‘raise us up’.

We are never truly alone in the darkest days of our lives.  Someone is always watching over us.  The things is, we just sometimes look at the wrong places.  We sometimes shut our hearts and think that we have it worse and that nothing good will happen.

“Life sucks” or even “Fuck life”?  Why are you complaining?  You think you have it worse?  Well, maybe you should think again.  Think of the lives that were lost in tragedies and disasters.  The young lives that were cut short.  The lives that held promise but never got to see the light of day.  Think of the abused, the abandoned, the poor.  Think of those who make the most of what life has to offer even when life doesn’t offer them much.

Would you rather be dead?  Would you rather not see the dawn of a new and brighter morn?

Maybe it’s high time that you start changing your view in life before you find that your time has run out.  Maybe you should try living your life instead of sitting in front of your computer complaining and complaining.

I pray for the souls of those who had died in these disasters.  I pray for Japan and all the other places that were ravaged by the earthquakes and the tsunamis.  Most of all, I pray for all of us that we start seeing life in a new light, that people will actually start living and start paying attention to the world around them.

I know this post is pretty long but I wanted to share my thoughts on the matter and on the song.  Below are the lyrics to this beautiful song sung by Josh Groban.  Until the next post, dream on; fly on!

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

There is no life – no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

You raise me up… To more than I can be.

There is nothing more that I enjoy doing than reading books and writing. I'm kind of a nerd like that, XD. I have been writing for 7 years and am the author of the YA novel "Winged: The Awakening" and "Winged: The Unraveling". Also, a YouTuber dealing with video games and gaming.
