Day 38: Settlin

“That’s good enough.” or “Pwede na yan.”  Many of us live our lives in being content with the mediocre.  As long as we get the job done, as long as we manage to do something that is “okay” and that has managed to “pass the grade”, we are already content with that.  We don’t see anything wrong with it, after all, we have finished what it is we set out to do, even if the outcome wasn’t “Great”, “Exceptional”, or even the best that we have first thought of when the idea came to our mind.

But, that should not be the case when we work or when we try to accomplish something.  A passing grade shouldn’t be what we are aiming for.  We weren’t born so that we can live in mediocrity and the so-so.  We were born to stand out, we have the power, the ability, the talent to go beyond the “Okay” and head for the “Excellent.”  The only problem is that we are too lazy to work our butts off and to give our very best at the tasks we have been given.

Today’s song, for me, talks about not being content with just being able to get the passing grade.  I love most of Sugarland’s song, but this one is among my Top 5 favorites.  The song, entitled, “Settlin’“, tells me so much whenever I listen to it on my iPod or read the lyrics of the song.  The melody, like most (if not all) of Sugarland’s songs, are pretty catchy and easy to learn and follow.

This song may not be as mellow or as dramatic, but I think it would be a great Graduation Song thanks to the message that it gives.

Below are the lyrics to the song.  Until the next post, dream on; fly on!

Fifteen minutes left to throw me together
For Mr. Right Now, not Mr. Forever
Don’t know why I even try when I know how it ends
Lookin’ like another, “Maybe we can be friends.”
I’ve been leaving it up to fate
It’s my life so it’s mine to make

I ain’t settlin’
For just getting by
I’ve had enough so-so
For the rest of my life
Tired of shooting too low
So raise the bar high
“Just enough,” ain’t enough this time
I ain’t settlin’ for anything less than everything

With some good red wine
And my brand new shoes
Gonna dance a blue streak around my living room
Take a chance on love, and try how it feels
With my heart wide open
Yeah, you know I will
Find what it means to be the girl
Who changed her mind
And changed the world

I ain’t settlin’
For just getting by
I’ve had enough so-so
For the rest of my life
Tired of shooting too low
So raise the bar high
“Just enough,” ain’t enough this time
I ain’t settlin’ for anything less than everything

I ain’t settlin’
For just getting by
I’ve had enough so-so
For the rest of my life
Tired of shooting too low
So raise the bar high
“Just enough,” ain’t enough this time

I ain’t settlin’
For just getting by
I’ve had enough so-so
For the rest of my life
Tired of shooting too low
So raise the bar high

I ain’t settlin’
No, no, no, no, no, no
So raise the bar high, high

There is nothing more that I enjoy doing than reading books and writing. I'm kind of a nerd like that, XD. I have been writing for 7 years and am the author of the YA novel "Winged: The Awakening" and "Winged: The Unraveling". Also, a YouTuber dealing with video games and gaming.
