Day 40: All Those Pretty Lights

We went to Manila today in order to satisfy my younger sister’s desire to go there, and also to visit my Uncle Joe.  I didn’t complain, after all, I managed to buy a couple of books on FullyBooked and National Bookstore.  I would have bought some from Powerbooks but, the Mall of Asia was pretty big and we were going on a tight schedule, so I couldn’t really waste time trying to find Powerbooks.  We seldom go to MOA.  It’s much farther from Lucena than Festival Mall, so we don’t go there much.

Anyways, I was thinking of this when I decided to pick Andrew Bell’s All Those Pretty Lights.  It was the song that was playing on my iPod the moment I boarded our car to head to Manila.

It’s a pretty good song, although I don’t like Andrew Bell’s voice much.  What I did like about this song is that it tells a story.  I like stories–which is, after all, evident from the way I love to read and write–and that made me enjoy listening to this song a couple of times before I quit hitting the previous song button on my iPod.  XD

Anyways, I know that most people will find that reason to be shallow.  But, for me, it isn’t.  It’s just enough of a reason.  Much like how saying “Because I like it” is enough reason for me to like something (or even not like something).  I try not to complicate things, although, sometimes, they still manage to end up being complicated.  Oh well, that’s life for you.  I don’t mind, though…even if I do get annoyed by it at times.  After all, complications help us grow and it teaches us things that we wouldn’t have learned if our lives remained constant.

Below are the lyrics to the song.  Until next time, dream on; fly on!

the wind blows through your hair
as you’re walking people stare
up the block and down the street
to north kings highway
and there’s a beating in my chest
and it’s seeming to suggest
that before this day is through
it might go my way
so i sit back in my seat
i scribble down something that’s sweet
about a boy, a girl, an endless stretch of scenery
cause it’s like falling to your knees
before a stranger on the street
i did it just the other day
you should have seen me

oh and i wanna remember this night
and how my words never came out right
it’s just my patience that keeps me alive
just like all those pretty lights
just like all those pretty lights in the sky

there’s something to be said
about the colors in your head
and how they mix to form
the perfect shade of sadness
not because of things i’ve done
or any of the songs i’ve sung
it’s just the story of our lives
we wish we had this

oh and i wanna remember this night
and how my words never came out right
it’s just my patience that keeps me alive
just like all those pretty lights
just like all those pretty lights in the sky

and i remember we stayed up
way past you’re bedtime
up on the 2nd floor
down by my sliding door
just innocent kids
in a victimless crime
trapped in a metaphor
hoping for something more

i wanna remember this night
and how my words never came out right
and it’s just my patience that keeps me alive
oh, just like all those pretty lights
just like all the pretty lights in the sky

and i wanna remember this night
and how my words never came out right
it’s just my patience that keeps me alive
just like all those pretty lights
just like all those pretty lights in the sky
in the sky, just like all those pretty lights.
just like all the pretty lights in the sky.
in the sky, just like all those pretty lights.
just like all the pretty lights in the sky

There is nothing more that I enjoy doing than reading books and writing. I’m kind of a nerd like that, XD. I have been writing for 7 years and am the author of the YA novel “Winged: The Awakening” and “Winged: The Unraveling”. Also, a YouTuber dealing with video games and gaming.
