Day 57: Born to Fly

Despite the fact that I am still feeling under the weather thanks to having the wires on my braces tightened (again) and not being able to eat much of anything or even speak much without swearing at the end of such action, I decided to still post this article featuring the fifty-seventh song of our hundred song challenge (or hundred days of music challenge).

The song I have chosen is one that was originally sung by Sara Evans and was (more recently) covered by one of my idol favorites, Lauren Alaina (click here if you wish to view her FaceBook profile) last week.

Lauren is one, young, “dudette” that I really admire.  I not only admire her voice but her character as well.  She isn’t vain and shallow (unlike some contestants that I could name) and, despite being given a huge compliment, she–like Scotty, my other idol favorite (McLaina, anyone?).

Anyways, I would write another article for her entirely, but right now, let’s get down to the business at hand while I can still take the damn pain in my teeth without throwing the mouse at my monitor in annoyance.

Born to Fly has got to be my favorite idol song this season.  I like how Lauren sang it.  Granted, she still hadn’t (as the judges like to say) brought out the “big guns” in this performance but, compared to the original (don’t get me wrong, I love Sara Evans as well), Lauren’s version is much better.

The title itself attest to what our destiny really is.  We are, from conception to death, meant to fly.  But, most of the time, we put our dreams on a shelf for a later date believing that we can make them come true later because there are some things that are more important for the moment.  We never dare to think that maybe our dreams (as farfetched or crazy as many may think them to be) are what’s important.  We forget that our time–our borrowed time– is limited.

For me, I think what the song is trying to say is that we should not waste our time waiting for our dreams to come true; waiting for a chance to present themselves to us.  We should act, and should act now.

If there is no opening, we make one.  If no chance presents itself, we find one and make one for ourselves.  What others may say about our dreams, let them say it but don’t let them take your dream away from you.  You were, as I have said in the beginning of this articled, born to fly.

Dreams aren’t just meant for wishing.  Dreams aren’t just meant for waiting to come true.  Dreams aren’t just meant to be dreams.  They are meant to be realized, to be made alive, to be lived, and to strive for.

Who has that much time?  The line from that song is a good question as any.  We don’t have unlimited time to make our dreams come true.

Do you have a dream that you have left aside?  Do you have a passion in life you want to fulfill but have continued to put aside for another day?  Stop doing that!  Realize your dream and live in it.  Nothing is impossible!

Below are the lyrics to this song.  You can download Lauren’s version of the song from iTunes (go!  do it! XD).

Until the next post, dream on; fly on!

I’ve been telling my dreams to the scarecrow
About the places that I’d like to see
I say, “friend do you think I’ll ever get there?”
Oh, but he just stands there smilin’ back at me
So I confessed my sins to the preacher
About the love I’ve been prayin’ to find
Is there a brown-eyed boy in my future, yeah
And he says, “girl, you’ve got nothin’ but time.”

But how do you wait for heaven?
And who has that much time?
And how do you keep your feet on the ground
When you know that you were born,
You were born to fly

My daddy he is grounded like the oak tree
My momma she is steady as the sun
Oh, you know I love my folks
But I keep starin’ down the road
Just lookin’ for my one chance to run
Hey, cause I will soar away like a blackbird
I will blow in the wind like a seed
I will plant my heart in the garden of my dreams
And I will grow up where I wander wild and free

Oh, How do you wait for heaven?
And who has that much time?
And how do you keep your feet on the ground
When you know, that you were born?
You were born, yeah, you were born to fly

So how do you wait for heaven?
And who has that much time?
And how do you keep your feet on the ground
When you know, that you were born
You were born to fly, yeah

You were born to fly, fly, fly, fly, hey

There is nothing more that I enjoy doing than reading books and writing. I'm kind of a nerd like that, XD. I have been writing for 7 years and am the author of the YA novel "Winged: The Awakening" and "Winged: The Unraveling". Also, a YouTuber dealing with video games and gaming.
