Day 63: Do I Make You Proud

Every child wants to ask that question to their parents:  Do I make you proud? Every child wants to hear from their parents that they do, indeed, make them proud–even with the littlest of things.  You know, it goes a long way to show your children that you are proud of them.  It makes them feel that they are worth it; it makes them feel proud of themselves; it makes them feel loved.

I know I feel blessed to have been born as a daughter to two of the most amazing people I know.  My parents never fail to tell their children that they are proud of them and their accomplishments.  And I guess the feeling is mutual since my sisters and I are proud of our parents as well.  And I am not just saying that.  I really do mean it.  I don’t think I would even wish to have a different set of parents.  They are the best gifts God has given me (apart from my life, of course since, next to living, our parents and our family are the first gifts that God gave to us when we are born).

But, back to the music-side of things.  Today’s song is a song sung by Taylor Hicks on the finale of American Idol a few years back.  It’s Do I Make You Proud and it’s one of my favorite finale songs.

It asks the question while at the same time answering the question on what to do to make someone proud of us.  Of course, I’m not saying that the lyrics of the song has all the answers we need.  Of course, not.  It just sorts of gives you a perspective on what makes a person proud.

This song got me thinking that it usually pays to tell someone that you are proud of them.  It helps them grow, you know.  It helps keep them going.  A word–a right word–can do a person a whole lot of good.  Words are powerful, just as powerful as the feelings behind them.

Below are the lyrics to this song.  Until the next post, dream on; fly on!

I’ve never been
The one to raise my hand
That was not me
And now that’s who I am
Because of you
I am standing tall
My heart is full
Of endless gratitude
You were the one
The one to guide me through
Now I can see
And I believe
It’s only just beginning

This is what we dream about

But the only question with me now
Is do I make you proud
Stronger than I’ve ever been now
Never been afraid of standing out
Do I make you proud

I guess I’ve learned

To question is to grow,
That you still have faith,
Is all I need to know,
I’ve learned to love,
Myself in spite of me,
And I’ve learned to
Walk on the road I believe.

Everybody needs to rise up
Everybody needs to be loved
To be loved
Everybody need to rise on
Everybody needs to be loved, to be loved

This is what we dream about
But the only question with me now
Is do I make you, do I make you proud
This is what we dream about
Never been afraid of standing out
Do I make you proud
Stronger than I’ve ever been
Never been afraid of standing out

Do I make you proud
Do I make you proud

There is nothing more that I enjoy doing than reading books and writing. I'm kind of a nerd like that, XD. I have been writing for 7 years and am the author of the YA novel "Winged: The Awakening" and "Winged: The Unraveling". Also, a YouTuber dealing with video games and gaming.
