For You, Mom

Mother’s Day is that day of the year when we are supposed to show our appreciation for that one person in our life who’s been with us from the very beginning. I mean the very beginning. But to be honest, the whole idea of having a specific day of the year to celebrate and honor moms around the world doesn’t really sit well with me. Why? Because there isn’t a single day that doesn’t go by without me telling my mom how much I love her. And I’m pretty sure this is the case with almost everyone. It’s almost sad that some people see it fit to commercialize Mother’s Day without giving much thought to the sentiment behind it.

But I won’t spoil this perfectly good post by waging a war against commercialism. No, this post’s sole reason is to pay tribute to all those wonderful women around the world who proudly hold the title of “Mom”. A mom is someone who devotes a great of time to help us stand on our own two feet both literally and metaphorically. Being there from the start, she’s the person who will wake up at 3 in the morning to change our diapers, tell us bedtime stories to help us sleep better, fret over us when we’re sick, cook our favorite foods, pack our lunches, comfort us when we’re sad and best of all, unconditionally love us. By no means am I leaving out the dads but as most will agree, there are some roles that only a mother can play to perfection.

My mom has always been around for me and my little brother. She’s a really strong woman who had the courage to face difficult times without much help from anyone. To be honest, I can’t think of anyone who could’ve done a better job than her. The fact that me and my brother turned out all right despite living in a big bad world is nothing but a glowing testament to her and her inner strength. I extensively searched my modest music library and came across this song which suits the occasion perfectly. It’s “The Perfect Fan” by The Backstreet Boys, an absolutely awesome song that I’d love to dedicate to all moms around the world especially my own.

Happy Mother’s Day

It takes a lot to know what is love
It’s not the big things but the little things
That can mean enough
A lot of prayers to get me through
And there is never a day that passes by
I don’t think of you
You were always there for me
Pushing me and guiding me
Always to succeed

You showed me
When I was young just how to grow
You showed me
Everything that I should know
You showed me
Just how to walk without your hands
‘Cause mom you always were
The perfect fan

God has been so good
Blessing me with a family
Who did all they could
And I’ve had many years of grace
And it flatters me when I see a smile on your face
I wanna thank you for what you’ve done
In hopes I can give back to you
And be the perfect son

You showed me
When I was young just how to grow
You showed me
Everything that I should know
You showed me
Just how to walk without your hands
‘Cause mom you always were
The perfect fan

You showed me how to love
You showed me how to care
You showed me how to love
You showed me how to care
And you showed me that you would always be there
I wanna thank you for that time
And I’m proud to say you’re mine

You showed me
When I was young just how to grow
You showed me
Everything that I should know
You showed me
Just how to walk without your hands
‘Cause mom you always were
The perfect fan

‘Cause mom you always were
Mom you always were
Mom you always were
You know you always were
‘Cause mom you always were
The perfect fan

I love you mom
