Moving away from all things infuriating, I found the perfect song to help calm myself and it’s from American Idol Season 10’s resident storyteller, Scotty McCreery. Today’s song is an oldie-yet-goodie country song entitled: For Once In My Life.
The song was originally–if I am not mistaken–sung by Frank Sinatra and was also sung by Stevie Wonder.
I think I love this song because of the lyrics. It kinda talks to me in a different way and somehow the meaning of the song is different as well. This song doesn’t just talk about a person for me. It could be a group, or it could just be something that you like to do or are passionate about. I love the song because it tells me that sometimes it’s okay to close the book if you find that you could find nothing in there. Sometimes choosing to close the book instead of turning the page isn’t considered quiting–it’s considered being smart.
I like the line For once, I can say, this is mine and you can’t take it.
The thought of dignity and faith crosses my mind on that–the two things that no one could take away from you…and something that you shouldn’t allow people to take away from you because people will try to take those things away from you. You have to fight back, otherwise they would just trample on you.
Anyways, below are the lyrics to this song. Until the next post, dream on; fly on!
For once in my life I have someone who needs me
Someone I’ve needed so long
For once, unafraid, I can go where life leads me
And somehow I know I’ll be strong
For once I can touch what my heart used to dream of
Long before I knew
Someone warm like you
Would make my dreams come true
For once in my life I won’t let sorrow hurt me
Not like it’s hurt me before
For once, I have something I know won’t desert me
I’m not alone anymore
For once, I can say, this is mine, you can’t take it
As long as I know I have love, I can make it
For once in my life, I have someone who needs me
