With the recent release of Sony’s most bad-ass handheld console, the Sony Entertainment Network (previously known as the PSN, PlayStation Network) had received an increase in digital sales. That is, of course, to be expected as VITA does not support the UMD of which PSP games were first introduced in.
However, even stellar games such as Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Unit 13, and HotShots Golf: World Invitational (just to name a few), the Vita is currently experiencing a drought in the RPG and JRPG department and VITA users (such as myself) are not happy about it. So, we turn to one of the developers who had never failed to give us an amazing RPG and JRPG games, ATLUS.
If you are a gamer, it would be incredulous if you have never heard of ATLUS. After all, they are the ones who brought us the acclaimed RPG series Shin Megami Tensei and Persona–both series having mind-blowing story and interesting set of characters.
The thing is, even though the ATLUS games are on sale in the SEN/PSN, the prices are not-so-stellar and will drain your pocket before you can say “Grape Juice”. Though their PSP games currently on sale are a year or two (or more) older, they have a not-so-competitive price that would make you choose an XSEED game instead.
Because of that, fans–especially people who are aching to play anything related to Persona while awaiting for news of The Golden reaching the US shores–asked ATLUS to lower their prices, to match it competitively with their rivals. It was a long battle. And it was not pretty. Words were exchanged–some angry, some confusing, and others supporting the idea while also seeing the standpoint of ATLUS.
Everyone who knows what had been going on in that fight–including me–thought that it would take a while. So, imagine my surprise when, as a member of the ATLUS Faithful, I received an email notifying me of the price drop.
Yes, folks. ATLUS listened to us and dropped the prices for their SEN/PSN games! And the price drop, let me tell you, isn’t a slash-percent-off thing. Below are the list of prices for the ATLUS games currently available in SEN/PSN:
- Persona $19.99 from original price $39.99
- Persona 2 $29.99 from original price $39.99
- Persona 3 Portable $19.99 from original price $39.99
- Riviera the Promised Land $9.99 from $14.99
- Yggdra Union $9.99 from $14.99
- Knights in the Nightmare $14.99 from $29.99
- Hexyz Force $14.99 from $29.99
- Kenka Bancho Badass Rumble $14.99 from $29.99
- Crimson Gem Saga $14.99 from $29.99
- Class of Heroes $14.99 from original price of $39.99
And, that’s it.
I’m not sure if this is a permanent pricedrop or if it is just for this week (as part of the Spring Fever PSN/SEN event). I’ll update again once I know the answer to that.
ATLUS states that these pricedrops are PERMANENT!! Woozah! So, there you go…if you’re not broke…a lot of JRPG love for the US Vita and non-Japanese gamers!
Dream on; Fly on!
