One of the things I love to watch is The Ellen Show which, of course, is the talk show hosted by none other than Ellen DeGeneres. With all honesty, I can say that I am a huge Ellen DeGeneres fan. I love how she works, what she stands for, and how she interacts with other people. I love her sense of humor, the way she comes up with puns and jokes that are does not degrade a fellow human being and is not laced with contempt or anything negative. She doesn’t need make a joke that would make the other person–the (read more…)

‘The Best Man In The Field’
The story is told of a great military captain who, after a full day of battle, sat by a warming fire with several of his officers and began talking over the events of the day with them. He asked them, ‘Who did the best today on the field of battle?’ One officer told of a man who had fought very bravely all day long, and then just before dusk, had been severely wounded. Another told of a man who had taken a hit for a fellow soldier, sparing his friend’s life but very possibly losing his own. Yet another told (read more…)

If you really do know me, you know not to ask me what kind of music I like. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know what music I love listening to. It’s not hard to find a song from that genre that I would like to listen to. I like stories. I love reading something adventurous, mysterious, inspirational–something with a good story. That’s why I love country music. Most of them (if not all) have a story. It can be a slice of life, or something inspirational. ”You can’t go wrong with a little country music” is what I (read more…)

During the four-week siege of Tientsin, in the June 1900 Boxer Rebellion, Herbert Hoover helped erect barricades around the foreign compound and organized all the able-bodied men into a protective force to man them. Mrs. Hoover went to work, too–helping set up a hospital, taking her turn nursing the wounded, rationing food and serving tea every afternoon to those on sentry duty. Like her husband, she remained calm and efficient throughout the crisis, and even seemed to enjoy the excitement. One afternoon, while sitting at home playing solitaire to rest after her work at the hospital, a shell suddenly burst nearby. She (read more…)

Welcome to the first day of our hundred day of music challenge. I’m pretty excited about this new cycle for this challenge and I’m pretty happy with the song I have picked up to open said challenge. I am a fan of video game franchises that not only have jaw-dropping graphics and gameplay systems but also a compelling and strong story. I suppose that it is a given, after all, I enjoy reading and writing. I am passionate about it even. A game can only go so far without a great story to hook gamers. Granted, casual gamers would probably (read more…)

When Teddy Roosevelt was asked to give a speech to the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, on June 2, 1897, readiness was his theme. He insisted the only way to keep peace was to be ready for war, and the only way to be ready for war was to enlarge the Navy. It was a rousing, patriotic speech. The following February, the Maine was blown up, killing 264 sailors and Americans across the land cried, ‘Remember the Maine!’ In April, President McKinley asked Congress to declare war on Spain. Not surprised that he backed the war effort, most Americans (read more…)

I probably should have started this at the same time when the eleventh season of American Idol started but, I didn’t. I suppose I was still putting this off in favor of the dozens of other projects that I currently have in queue. I won’t go into detail what those projects are since (a) there are so many of them and I would rather unveil them at the right time and (b) this post isn’t about said projects but of the second cycle for the 100 Days of Music Challenge. If you guys could recall, I started this challenge last (read more…)
